Oscar Contest Wrap: How Smart Were Our Readers?

This year’s contest saw two contestants naming seven out of eight winners with Phillip Hain of Glendale, CA, selected as our winner. In addition to Phillip’s prize, Brater Agency has donated $100 to Community Health Alliance of Pasadena, the charity of his choice.

Here are a few statistics as to our collective best success at guessing Oscar winners:

75% of Brater World selected Everything Everywhere All at Once as Best Picture.

68.8% selected the two Daniels (Kwan and Scheinert) as Best Director.

75% selected Michelle Yeoh as Best Actress.

68.8% selected Ke Huy Quan as Best Supporting Actor.

62.5% selected the two Daniels for Best Original Screenplay.

56.3% selected Brendan Fraser as Best Actor.

There were two categories in which the respondents gave the majority of votes to a non-winner.

Best Supporting Actress had Angela Bassett receiving 37.5% of the vote with eventual winner Jamie Lee Curtis receiving 31.3%. Stephanie Hsu came in third with 18.8%.

Best Adapted Screenplay saw two nominees getting the bulk of the votes — All Quiet on the Western Front led with 43.8%, followed by eventual winner Sarah Polley, Women Talking, receiving 37.5%.

Hope you join us for next year’s contest.
